Living Our Mission
Last Wednesday, we had a powerful time sharing dinner and hearing from Dr. Steve Seamands as he shared about the obstacles we often place in the way of receiving God’s love for us. Whether it’s lies we’ve believed about ourselves that make us feel unlovable or anger and disappointments that we feel towards God, these can prevent us from fully receiving the love of God into our lives. Perhaps we believe in God, perhaps we even believe that we have received forgiveness for our sins through Jesus Christ, but we can still find it difficult or even impossible to believe we are truly, deeply, unconditionally loved by God.
Allowing God to remove those obstacles is vitally important because, as Scripture teaches, “we love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). That is to say, we are only able to love God if we first experience His love for us, and when asked what is the greatest commandment, Jesus answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31). So, it’s impossible to obey God’s greatest commandment unless we first receive His love for us. It’s God’s love, God’s holiness, God’s presence, God’s power that empowers the Christian life. That’s so much more than just agreeing with what the Bible teaches; that’s living what the Bible teaches.
Living God’s eternal purpose in our everyday life is what we’re all about at Christ Harbor.
